“We are already seeing a transition in the way education is imparted. Use of technology is making a big difference in education. We can no longer remain in the traditional knowledge-acquisition system. Gone are the days of remaining satisfied with traditional knowledge, as the need of the hour, is to be digital savvy and innovative. Education of the future, propelled by these instruments, will thus rest on wisdom- driven conclusions. The future generation would not be restricted to being merely literates, but super- literates and experts in their respective subjects, whose understanding and knowledge would be far beyond the rest of us. The late Stephen Hawking was one such extra-ordinary personality, way ahead of his time”, Chamling said.

Sikkim now had 27 colleges and seven universities and lately the state government had enacted legislations to set up another state university and a National Law University. His vision was to see Sikkim to be the best state and he hoped that with these steps that dream could be achieved soon.

Sikkim governor Shriniwas Patil was also coferrred on the day the degreee of Doctor of Science(Honoris Causa) in recognition of his contributions to the society. Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu who was scheduled to preside over the function could not attend as his trip was cancelled.

A total of 981 graduates present and in absentia were conferred with degrees. Gold and silver medals were presented to the meritorious students. ICFAI University chancellor R. P. Kaushik declared the convocation open and a brief report on the university was presented by Vice-Chancellor Dr Jagannath Patnaik.
