ITI Students protest over irregular classes turns violent in Takyel


Two abandoned cars were burnt down in a protest against the non-fulfillment of their long pending demands by students of Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Takyel, West district under Lamphel police station.

While speaking to mediapersons secretary of ITI Student Union L Moramba Meitei said that the students have been demanding for the smooth functioning of the institute and to provide good infrastructure. He said that since October 10 they had already submitted several memorandums to the concerned authorities. However the concerned authorities took no response about the issue.

Moramba said, “We have come here to study and build our future. But unfortunately the institute has no facilities.”. He also added that the students will continue the agitation till their demands are met, he added.

The students alleged that ITI, a government run institution aiming at imparting non-engineering and engineering skills to the youths and students of the state is being left and unattended by the authorities with no regular classes.

The police later arrived at the spot and handled the situation.
