Two sexagenarians were arrested from Dibrugrah and Dhubri districts of Assam on Friday for raping minors.
Dharmu Bhumij, 60, a resident of an area under Duliajan police station in Dibrugarh district, was arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old.
The victim’s maternal aunt said they came to know of the alleged crime when the girl complained of abdomen pain last Tuesday and they took her to a nearby pharmacy where the doctor diagnosed her as three-month pregnant.
When they asked the girl, she said Bhumij had established physical relationship with her for the past three months. The girl, an orphan, has been residing with her grandmother and maternal aunt since the death of her parents two years ago. As the family finds it difficult to make ends meet, the victim used to work as a domestic help at Bhumij’s house, about 100m from her house. He often called her to clean his house and had intercourse with her. She said he gave her gifts and money and asked her to keep quiet about the relationship.
